De Struise Brouwers

That you like de Struise beers seems pretty clear. For me, they are too extreme and I don't care much for them. Fair enough. However, that you only read American/English sites does not necessarily give you insight into what Belgians/Dutch think about them or their beers. Take Tim Webb, for example. I assume you know who he is. When Ratebeer voted de Struise the best brewers, he wrote a piece calling it "pure Disney" raising many of the same objections that the Belgian press, which you choose to ignore, had raised. Someone posted a link to Webb's piece on the Zythos forum (the link is now dead, unfortunately), Urbain of de Struise responded. He wrote: "This man (Webb) has simply never produced any professional, good journalism." Well, people may disagree about their beer, but to dismiss Tim Webb with that comment is just not right. Is Urbain now also a competent judge of good journalism? Yes, "beer geeks" exist in many nationalities, but the phrase does not necessarily mean the same thing in all cultures and the number of "geeks" in Europe (in the American sense) is quite small in comparison to the general beer-drinking population. There is a very good (and obvious) reason that de Struise distributes so little beer in their own country.
