Bamberg -several places not open

Have you been to any Barfüsser or Der Vogel places? Those are brewpubs which are largely indistinguishable, IMO, to US brewpubs. If they were in the US, you'd find a lineup of pale ale, IPA, porter and stout. But here, you get murky, often yeasty, bland pale and dark lager. (Well, Der Vogel is better than the others, but still.) I say "US-stlye" because they remind me of brewpubs I've experienced in the US, as opposed to an old Brauereigaststätte. Probably built since 1980, when brewpubs started springing up in the US. The kit appears about the same. Nikl is a bit in the middle: not really a modern brewpub style, although newly built, and appear to lager their beer long enough. The other way round, I know of *no* old-fashioned German-stlye Brauereigastätten in the US. But I'm sure there must be some.
