Franconian Beer Message Board

Berliner Biermeile Musings

Now having looked at the alphabetical listing, I see quite a few German beers I've not had (nor heard of), but my track record with the vast bulk of non-Franconian German beer doesn't lead me to think I'd have all that much fun exploring them. (Another Hell. Another Pils. Another Dunkel.) For an international beer fest, they've sure got a load of unimpressive or even downright depressing international beer. The old-fashioned Scots beers are the only decent ones from the UK that I can see --aside from the amazing Old Tom, if *strong* English barleywine is your thing. It's as if they're trying to reinforce the stereotype of crap brown ale from there. Yes, I know, the target audience drinks 99% crap beer anyway. And Pabst and Lone Star from the US? A few drinkable Belgians, but those are much too strong for me these days, aside from Orval, which I suspect will be youngish bottles. And the lighter Kasteel is new to me. I assume none of the British beers will be cask-conditioned, rather, keg or bottled, right? Kölsch & Alt -- vom Holzfass or CO2 keg? Having you and Peter (and Eileen!) there would make up for a lot of potential beer disappointment.
