The latest episode of "Secrets of Bavarian Cuisine" with double-Michelin chef Christian Jürgens featured a very nice visit to Schlenkerla, a quick stop at the new brewery in Thuisbrunn, and bits on Bamberger Hörnla, Zwetschgenbammes, Schäufela, and Überbrot. It's online for now, not sure how long it will stay there: < http://mediathek-video.br.de/B7Mediathek.html?bc=_164382545&bccode=bfs > I've harvested the German subtitles from it but haven't translated them yet. May get around to that soon. Or maybe not. It's not Franken, but it's a good show about Kloster Andechs and does show quite a bit of the brewery: < programm.ard.de/TV/2012/05/15/bilderbuch-deutschland/eid_282267937186643 > Also (probably) not fränkisch, but "Beer Makes (you) Happy" from Hessen: < programm.ard.de/TV/2012/05/16/service--trends/eid_281087883691812 > which may well be archived after being broadcast on Wednesday: < http://www.ardmediathek.de/ard/servlet/content/3516914?documentId=3380080 > A show about how four guys strove to find out how beer was made...in 1910, with B&W photos (and film?) of hop farming, malthouses, a long-gone brewery in Fürth and the Erlanger Bergkirchweih from back then: < programm.ard.de/TV/2012/05/17/kostbarkeiten-auf-zelluloid/eid_281077933393941 > Kölsch was featured only briefly in last week's episode of "Wunderschön", specifically how one is to behave in the Kölsch halls: so that your Kölbe is pleased. Also how to make gourmet Himmel und Ääd: < http://www.wdr.de/tv/wunderschoen/ > And tonight's episode features Düsseldorf. A week from Monday, traveling reporter Gernstl will be in Oberfranken, which means Schlenkerla: < programm.ard.de/TV/2012/05/21/gernstl---sieben-mal-bayern/eid_281077933404863 > A coming episode of "Country Guesthouses" will feature gardens in Franken, including "beer ribs" and salmon with hop oil(!): < http://www.br.de/fernsehen/bayerisches-fernsehen/sendungen/landgasthaeuser/landgasthaeuser110.html > And last but not nearly least, the team from BR3 who travel around finding Bavaria's most affordable Biergärten (plural) were at Roppelt's in Stiebarlimbach on Friday. Video was made and may appear on the next episode of "Money and Life Business Magazine", whereas the last episode features a bit of the nearby Laufer Keller (3,20€ pro Mass!): < http://mediathek-video.br.de/B7Mediathek.html?program=225&episode=101511&bccode=bfs > (ca. 17 minutes into the show, downloadable too) The next episode should run "after the match" on Monday, so sometime around 22.30. My video capturing & recording apparatuses shall have a busy couple of weeks.
