I don't know if there is a family connection between both Eichhorns, but I can ask at my next visit in Dörfleins. A nice tool to determine the proliferation of names is: http://www.verwandt.de This is the proliferation of "Eichhorn" http://www.verwandt.de/karten/absolut/eichhorn.html You can see, that this name has a great proliferation in the north in Franconia and the south part of Thuringia. Historical background, why both regions have had a context: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saxe-Coburg_and_Gotha If You visit Sonneberg, Suhl, Meinungen etc. in Thuringia, maybe You can hear that the majority of people speak a dialect which is similar to Frankish. In the south of the so called "Rennsteigschranke" (Rennsteig barrier) the people speak a dialect near to Frankish. Rennsteig is a chain of mountains, which divides south Thuringia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Karte_Verlauf_Rennsteig.png
