Pottenstein area recommendations

I'm thinking of exploring the Ebermannstadt-Pottenstein-Pegnitz area. Basically, heading NE-wards from Forchheim to Bayreuth. Any recommendations? I will be using public transport, so I guess I need to get to know the bus timetables. Also, any lodgings in Ebermannstadt-Pottenheim-Pegnitz. Or maybe I should base myself in Bayreuth or Forchheim and make day trips. Thanks Mike
