New Ulm or Neu Ulm?

When I lived in Iowa, I worked with a man that grew up in the Amana Colonies speaking German and didn't learn English until he went to school. This would have been in the 40's or so. You used hear the waitstaff at the restaurants speaking German and once we had a German friend visiting it blew is mind -- it was 1700's German (as one might expect from such an isolated community) It turns out the guy I worked with had owned the last brewery in the Amanas and when I knew him (early 80's) the beer was contract brewed in Cold Springs, MN but I remember him talking about switching to New Ulm. I wasn't much into beer there, I would have loved to have talked to him about it now.
