Brauerei zum Goldenen Löwen in Hallstadt, near Bamberg

Recently Jez Blake led me to the tap for this former brewery, which is housed in a truly splendid building, at Marktplatz 1, dating from 1450; it is signed the Brauerei Goldener Löwe, and is also referred to as Löwenbräu Diller. Quite simply, it is a national treasure that must be visited; it has Wagner beers from nearby Kemmern. The landlord is Karl Diller, who was actually in charge of the brewery, before it closed in 1985. He is helped in the place by his wife, Greta. They are getting on in years, so I suspect that things could happen to the place when they vacate it, for whatever reason. Therefore, I urge you to get to this life-enhancing place ASAP; it is readily reached on the number 4 bus from Bamberg. I don't have opening hours for it, but it was open on a Saturday lunch time, I have knocked up a Web page featuring it: http://www.whitebeertravels.com/hallstadt . As I say in this, if it is not open when you get to it, camp outside until it does open!
