Kulmbach beer fest? (and other beer fests) |

| Be adviced that getting accomodation in Kulmbach might be a bit difficult at the time of the beerfest. But not impossible, if you're well in time for reservations. And yes, your guesses are quite correct, although the Kulmbach beers are not as bad as in Munich (my Franconian bias again, SCNR). The Annafest is way different in atmosphere from Kulmbach and Munich. I think the best way to describe the difference is that Munich and Kulmbach have a "(big) city fest" atmosphere, and Forchheim (and many other Franconian beerfests) still have a "village fest" atmosphere, Forchheim being a quite modest city, not really a village. In the past however, I've been to a beer fest in Nuremberg, in the Stadtgraben, featuring quite an interesting range of small breweries from the Nuremberg region, and it had a village atmosphere. I'm not sure if it is still being organised, it used to be sometime early/mid may IIRC. Jos |
