Hi Barry, I've been away for a while and your post is the first one I've viewed in some time; and it's a dandy! I was fortunate to randomly stumble upon several of their beers a number of years ago in CO when they were very fresh. As a longtime biere de garde fan, I was very impressed. I found their beers to be tremendously balanced, if tilted slightly towards that herbal/licorice-y Alsatian Strisselspalt (and Brewer's Gold, presumably) charm that I have loved since first experiencing La Bavaisienne some 15 years ago. I think they have a lovely yeast character, too, and the brewer gets a lot of soft textures from their malt. If pressed, I *slightly* prefer the Hildegarde Ambrée to the wonderful Blonde, but both IMHO are truly world-class. I'm glad you enjoyed them. Best wishes to you and your bride in 2017! |
