Adventures in Zoigl Country

I just wanted to share the adventures I had on this last weekend in east Franken. Barry, you will find it particularly relevant.

On Saturday I set out for the Oberpfalz on a Bayernkarte with every intention of returning the same day. I went for a beer in neustadt an dear waldnaab at bein brucksaler which was fine. Then I went to windisheschenbach, and Binner. The beer was fine, but what was interesting was a couple who came in and I'm sure they said to the landlord that they were from bad staffelstein (in Fräankische, bad staffelstaaaaar). Anyway, I moved to Fieldschneider and had an enjoyable beer chatting to a couple of locals, one of which unbeknown to me was Rude Loistl from the Zoigl house of the same name and alter pfarrhof in altenstadt.

So the couple come in and sit at our table and it turns out they are from bad staffelstein. She works in metzgebrau Uetzing. They are in windisheschenbach for a holiday for his birthday. Long story short, Rudi offered me a place at his for the night as he was driving to Bamberg the next day and would bring me back - a very Nixe gesture. I visited Loistl in Neuhaus where it was very snowy and chatted to the owner who remembered me from last time and filled a couple of litre bottles for me for pennies and I returned to meet the group in FIeldschneider. After a few too many zoigls we went back to Rudi's and enjoyed some of his zoigl (open next week) and went to bed far too late.

To celebrate said chap's birthday we had Fruhschoppen bier at Binner at 10am (too early). Then Rudi and his wife and I travelled to Bad Staffelstein: Rudi had decided to overnight at the brewery and offered to take me to Bamberg but I thought he'd already done more than enough so I said Loffeld would be great. Rudi then left for personal business in bad staffelstein and we said our goodbyes as I would be gone before he returned. After a nice lunch at the bar in Brauerei staffelberg I spoke to the young barman asking if I could buy a 6 pack for Rudi as a thank you and if they would take to his room. We got talking and I was presented with 33cl bottles of their new triple bock and saphir bocks AND he and his girlfriend took me to Vierzehnheiligen.

After a lovely trunk fastenbock it would not surprise me one bit if Jesus appeared and offered to buy the beer for me. It's been that sort of weekend.

Ps. Barry, Rudi says hi and I also met your landlord at Fruhschoppen who obviously knows you too (his name I forget). Infamous...
