Yes, this. A fine pint of OBB at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese was a highlight of my day in London in July. It had been a few years since I'd had a pint before that, last time was 2011, I think, in Scarborough. Samuel Smith's a certainly a curious business model. Rumour is, the boss doesn't like to pay taxes, so he minimises profits through low prices and revenue. Is that true? Sadly, there seem to be no SS pubs in or near Thanet, where we hope to live. IIRC, Gerhard at Café Abseits had a visitor some time ago: a young member of the SS family. And SS also goes "way back" for me: their bottled beers have long, long been imported in the US, with the Nut Brown, Stout, and especially Winter Warmer being rare examples of good bottled English beer back then. |
