True also for North America, particularly the USA. There was actually a commercial beer called "Zoigl" brewed in the USA at one point! And there are several "Kolsch" beers brewed in the country as well, not to mention "lambic" and "Berliner (style) Weisse" and other styles. Brewers here might profess to respect brewing traditions, but when it comes to controlled regional names in the EU ... not so much. At least one brewer in Seattle's Ballard district makes a play on words, making a top-fermented cold-conditioned blond beer and calling it "Balsch." Gotta like that. |
