Franken holiday locations

Juergen has inspired some thought about possible holiday locations in Franken. We've been now many times to Bamberg and, anyway, J. says that she is 'Bamberged-out!' Same doesn't apply to me but I have to respect her wishes, so future time in Bamberg will have to be restricted a little. We really enjoyed Forcheim last year but it's too early to go back. So, where else might we go? As we don't hire cars when on holiday (for obvious reasons), there has to be reasonable public transport to other destinations. Preferably, it should be a location with a number of alternative breweries or, at least, pubs where we might try different things. Cost is also a factor: Bamberg is not so cheap nor is Forcheim, one reason why long hols in Eschawo are attractive. I'm scratching my head a bit - I think that Jan suggested Amberg some time ago and would be interested in other people's views of that town. Any suggestions gratefully received! Oh yes, a decent swimming pool, preferably freibad, would be welcome; also opportunities for nice walks, though not too hilly! Got to look after our aging bodies.
