| The 6% is based on average, safe, conservative earnings of investments. So, to replace the earnings currently being made on the funds being invested, we would need to earn 6% profit, or it would make no business sense, we'd be losing income we currently have. I've long been thinking of seeing if Norbert, up at our favourite Franconian brewery of all, the Friedel Brauhaus am Kreuzberg, would like to brew a batch of half-IPA for me. He's pretty experimental for these parts, the kit seems pretty small and modern-brewpub-y, so it would be a good match. But yes, the idea is to brew myself on my own kit. When Gazza P., one of the "cuckoo" brewers in the shed in back of a pub in Sheffield, was here in December, he said I could easily get a really small kit for 10 - 15k € (or maybe £). "I assume that you will be going for top-fermented ale rather than botton-fermented beer? Do you think that there is a market for this?" Why on earth would I want to brew lager when I brew ale every week because there's only lager or Weizenbier around here? Have you not been paying attention? ;) As to whether there's a market for it, that's why I say things like, I'd have to export it or drink it all myself. Seriously though, I bet if I priced it low enough, no one would care if it's ale or lager. These people like their beer *cheap*, and beer's more expensive here in Erlangen than in Bamberg, for example. Also, a non-professionally-trained brewer like me would have to charge less for his beer! I'd have to cut the 5% Weizen malt from the grain bill in order to conform to the Reinheitsgebot of 1516 though. Not sure about the modern Reinheitsgebot...top-fermented beer might be exempt from having to be all-barley? |
