| That's the one. Why? My explanation probably would fall short but I'll do my best. If I walked into the place just to have a pint and you look around there is really nothing spectacular about it. There nothing special about what's on tap. It's the same shite you get at every other pub throughout Ireland. The decor and layout is fairly plain. But if you hang around for a while and visit a few times you start to find that there is a lot more to it than meets the eye. It has a real community feel to it. The missus and I have visited it off and on over the years since around 2001 (so spread out over a course of 12 years) and yet we go back in there last Fall after being away for a while and many of the same regulars are still there on a Friday or Saturday night including a 90+ year old man who was in his 80's last time we saw and yet he still comes in on a Saturday for his shot of Bushmills and pint of Guinness and to listen to some Irish music. Yes there are terrific Irish music sessions there that also goes off on tangents of locals or visitors singing a song or three, some set dancing, there's one regular that is quite the comedic poet and always has a hilarious poem to recite, etc., etc. I could go on an on about the fun that happens in there that I really enjoy but would probably bore most people to tears. Oh hell it probably goes straight near the top of the list just because it's our favorite pub in our favorite town. Now if they could get some great beer on tap ... oh baby! And like I said initially "it might very well be" my favorite pub in the world. But I've got quite a few of those that "might very well be" including many in Franconia. I always try to give myself that wiggle room because I known I can be prone to exaggeration. |
