Didn't know the Circus was the smallest. And yes, that is, of course, the place. I didn't encounter any Holt's IPA this trip (Wed eve - Sun morning), but I do have another new post-modern microbrewery to add to your list to look for next time you're over there: Buxton. I'd heard great things about this new brewery, unfortunately after I had spent a day wandering the countryside based at Buxton station last fall. Then, I finally found their 3.6%(?) Moor Top, "hopfengestopft" with Chinooks, for a post-breakfast, pre-departure-flight tipple at the consistently good Waterhouse Spoons. Tied for the best beer of the trip, with Mallinson's Galaxy and Ossett White Rabbit, also <4% pale hopmonsters. So the trip ended on a good note. And a visit to 't Arends Nest whilst lying over a few hours in Amsterdam was nice too. Drank with an Aussie homebrewer there, actually. He's skeptical of my newest homebrewing innovation though: bottling after two days' primary fermentation in order to allow the end of primary to provide the carbonation, thereby saving at least one - two weeks' bottle conditioning time. |
