Yes, it's an awful thing and needs constant improvement, except of course that it's delightful and needs no improvement at all (aside from the occasional dodgy half-liter that's been kept a bit too long, but that's another story). Although a hybrid Alt-Zoigl is an intriguing concept... and I wonder if a Zoigl fermented with an Altbier culture and then cold-conditioned would really show a great deal of difference.
