Frankfurt morning departure – what to do? |

"2.Go to Frankfurt early the day prior and enjoy Frankfurt and maybe check out the apple wine scene. It would be a Sunday so I’m not sure if that would be a problem." Not "maybe" check out the apple wine scene, *absolutely* check it out. Skip the Frankfurter beer "scene" entirely, it's bloody miserable. Sunday is no problem, as people go out to eat and drink on Sunday. Frankfurt is not Alabama. :) I absolutely *loved* the couple of nights I spent in Sachsenhausen last summer touring the Apfelweinhäuser, which remind me of the Altbierhäuser in Düsseldorf, only smaller and more ... intimate, I suppose. And the Apfelwein culture is pretty cool, with the pumping of the cidre up from the cellar into big ceramic pitchers that are mounted on the cast iron stands and what-not, like how they they use the Fass-elevators in the Düsseldorfer places. I say it'd be a shame to do some sort of midnight train ride or hire a car after a night's drinking in Bamberg to extend a 5 night Bamberg stay into a 5-1/2 night one, especially if you have already been to Bamberg and not Sachsenhausen. It would give you a picture of an entirely unique drinking culture. I was stunned by how great it was, actually. (Of course, the weather happened to be nice.) |
