With every passing year, it becomes easier and easier to find a FeWo online just about anywhere. Town websites will even feature listings, and if a given FeWo doesn't have a web site, the phone number is handy. The last few FeWos I've booked in Franconia were all done on the web and with e-mail, and that was also true for a studio FeWo I booked in Vienna a couple of years ago. At this, point, for stays much longer than just a couple of nights, the FeWo option seems the best way to go, at least for the foreseeable future. It doesn't hurt that the missus simply loved our last place, and that the FeWo we got in the same town for another couple of friends was also quite a nice little place. That last one was also an interesting - and, I think, new - experience for the landlady, who was very much not accustomed to accommodating American guests, and was a little flustered at the possible lack of communications. As it turned out, everything went well, and my friends were ultra-responsible. She was quite pleased, and they were happy as well. I think once a visiting traveler learns about this kind of alternative vacation lodging, it becomes obvious why it's such an attractive option.
