| "Seidla" is an unit, a measure. In German such units have no special plural forms. You say: 1 Seidla 2 Seidla It's the same like 1 Meter 2 Meter or 1 Liter 2 Liter An exception: How far is 2 kilometers in miles = Wie weit sind 2 Kilometer in Meilen. Meile (singular), Meilen (plural). Kilometer (singular), Kilometer (plural). An other exception: 1 Unze - 2 Unzen (an old measure for 144 Karat = "ounce") The Wikipedia page http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alte_Ma%C3%9Fe_und_Gewichte#Z.C3.A4hlma.C3.9Fe give You an overview about old measures in the german language area. Sometimes the meaning of a measure is different in different regions of Germany. p.e. "Schoppen" means in Bavaria 1/4 Liter. But in my counry, near France, Schoppen means around 0,4 Liter ("la chopine" is an old french measurement for 0,476073 Liter). So if You order "1 Schoppen Wein" in Bamberg You will get 0,25 liter wine (or 0,2 liter in pubs, who want to make the price seeming lower). But if You order "1 Schoppen Wein" in Rhineland-Palatinate You will get 0,4 liter wine in the most cases. |
