Um, the only ales you'll find on that schedule will be the occasional wheat beer. There may be a brewery in Franconia that does a non-wheat, top fermented beer but off the top of my head I can't think of one. And if you ignore any beer labeled "Pils" or "Pilsner" you'll be missing out of a fair chunk of the good stuff. Can't offer any advice on castles. And we all here have different tastes so you may get a bunch of different answers. On 2) going into Bamberg, my favorites are Möchsambach, Grasmannsdorf, Weiher and Bischberg though any are good. Once in Bamberg you should be busy with the breweries there. On 3) my favorites are Rossdoft am Först, Aufsess, Breitenlesau and Huppendorf. On 4) I like Dörfleins, Kemmern, Loffeld adn Merkendorf. on 5) Forcheim is worth a stop because there are 4 breweries (or brewery taps) within a short walking distance. The individual breweries since to all have their ups and downs but are generally good and often very good. The Amberg breweries are all decent. I didn't like the beer at Kallmünz when I was there, but others whose tastes I respect like it very much so I may have caught them on a bad day. Not a yeasty ale in the bunch, though. |
