| That doesn't make sense. According to this table: http://tinyurl.com/ywgj2x Niedersachsen has perhaps the most comprehensive Rauchverbot of all the Bundesländer after Hamburg. (I find it amusing that grocers (Lebensmittelläden)are included in the list of types of places with smoking ban specifications...and are nearly uniformly EXcluded.) Airports are included, as are Gaststätten, with exceptions for seperate rooms. We had been pleased this weekend with Leipzig & Dresden w.r.t. smoking, as it seemed to us that the Saxons don't seem to smoke as much as the Franks, until we stopped in for a nightcap (http://www.einsiedler.de/index.php bottled Hellerbock GOOD, Zwickelbier vom Fass GOOD) in a cellar Kneipe a block from our Nichtraucherhotel (http://www.hotel-sax.de/ new in 2007, huge rooms, direct on Tram/Straßenbahn line 7&12, 49 € / night), where it was as smokey as any brown café. Smokiest place we've been to since perhaps our last visit to 't Brugse Beertje. AFA Gosebier goes...eh. Interesting enough, I guess, and nice to see it being brewed again, but the one (not the Bayerischer Bahnhof one) reminds me of Berliner Weisse Lite. Drinking it at both Symphonie (vom Fass) and Ohne Bedenken (bottled--stellar pub!) just served to remind me of how much I'm going to miss real Berliner Weisse in the coming years. The Gose at the Bayerischer Bahnhof was more interesting: I'd swear there's some spice there, if it weren't for the Reinheitsgebot! Their Bock was quite good too; this is one of the best modern brewpubs I've been to in the whole country. But the place is being torn up to build the CityTunnel (single line U-Bahn). Not the specific house that the brewpub's in, but much of the rest of the Bahnhof. Shall post photos sometime, somewhere. Did enjoy Glühbier (Liefmann's--Belgian beer in Germany!) at the Dresdener Weihnachtsmarkt though, and had the best Glühwein ever at the Leipziger one. |
