Train strike |

I have been planning to go to Bamberg in December but I am now concerned about the train strike. The following are my current plans which I think are all in question if the strike is not settled. But if anyone can give me decent alternatives besides renting a car, I'd appreciate it. As I understand it almost all trains are affected by the strike including the ICE. I'm flying into Frankfurt on Thursday, December 6 and taking the train to Bamberg. I will be there until Tuesday and was planning day trips to Nuremberg, Buttenheim, and Coburg. I'm then taking the train to Mainz and planning a day trip to Freiburg and one to Worms and Speyer. I would then be heading to Antwerp on Friday, December 14. If the strike is not settled, I think I will give up on Germany with the exception of perhaps an overnight in Frankfurt (I've never been there) and then go to Amsterdam and Belgium for the rest of the holiday since I have a Germany/Benelux rail pass. However, I have been to the Netherlands and Belgium numerous times and would prefer to keep my original plans (or some reasonable variation that does not include hitchhiking or sitting in train stations for six or more hours). So any advice would be appreciated. Thanks |
