Heh. Not a native Orygunian though! By birth and upbringing, I'm an Upper Flatlandian: from Minnesconsin. Although I'm often mistaken for a Briton, Irishman, or even a Scot (!) here, "wegen meines Akzents", and in Manchester last month I was mistaken for a Canadian. (Not to mention the times I'm mistaken for a Holländer or Belgian...sorry Jos & Treinjan!) But to Jos' point about beer strengths: What makes 5% "standard"? Sheer volume of sales worldwide? Wasn't beer typically weaker in the past, before modern brewing practices and science improved fermentation? (Not asked to be argumentative, just curious.) AFA Schankbier goes, I do currently drink Schankbier at home. Those with weak stomachs may wish to not read any further. . . . . . . . . I mix (!) Jever Light (2.7%) and Hofmann (Pahres) Schankbier (2.4%) to make a drinkable Schankbier with a bit of malt as well as hop. Fine for salads and tending to the grill. Or for lunch. |
