Erlangen or Forcheim??

We have 1 night to spend as we leave Bamberg and head to Regensberg. We will hit Forcheim, but should we just stay the night there or is it worth it to cut Forcheim short and make it to Erlangen? We are attracted by the Weizenbock and Whiskey malt beers of Steinbach, but are these likley to be available in mid-summer? How many beers do the actually have at once? Besides the breweries, are there other good beer gardens with local taps in Forcheim or Erlangen that should sway our decision? Finally, do you have any reccommendations on hotels at either place?
