Too many tourists

Yeah it seems you have to plan further in advance than ever before to get a good hotel room in Bamberg.  It's amazing how many places are completely full even 6-7 months in advance.  This seems to be in the last 2-3 years it's gotten like this.  Yeah there are more beer tourists now but not that many.  I just think the word is out on Bamberg as a great place to visit even for those just wanting to see the sights.  You see Bamberg being mentioned more in non-beer travel forums like Fodors these days.  Before you know it it will be in a Rick Steve's video (if it's not already).  The very thouight of a video segement of Rick Steve's sipping on a Schlenkera is making me cringe.

Anyhow I still prefer Bamberg overall as a base of operations.  For me visiting Bamberg last May for 8 nights and then Eschawo for 3 was an interesting contrast to think about.  Eschawo a whole lot more quiet and was very relaxing to me at first but by day 3 I was going stir crazy for hours looking for something to do prior to settling into a zoigl stube with Barry and J. that afternoon.  This is never a problem for me in Bamberg.  I was there 8 nights and could have very easily stayed another 8 more.  Every day there was more exploration to do either to local kellers or breweries in the easily reachable countryside places by train, bus, and foot or just wandering around the city itself.  To each is own I guess.  I asked Fred when I met him in Bamberg if he goes to Eschawo once in a while and why not and he said that Bamberg was his "comfort zone" and I couldn't agree more.  That's exactly it for me as well.  For whatever reason I just feel very comfortable there and using it as a primary base when visiting.  For me it's never dull there and I can pretty much get to most of the places I want to visit from there anyhow (sometimes with Juegen's help of course)

Yeah it's busier now and cost more but to me it's still well worth it.  Maybe I'll get tired of it down the road but I don't that will happen anytime soon.
