Some beer walks for beginners

For my most recent trip, I decided to get out into the country and visit some of the many village breweries. The good news is that this is possible using a combination of public transport and walking. However, my one regret is that I did not rent a bike, as suggested by other members of this forum. I soon discovered that there are many miles of safe, high quality tarmac bike routes out there in the Franconian countryside. Biking in the country looks to be pretty safe. Here are some easy walks I did: Breitengussbach-Baunach (about 3 km). Sign-posted tarmac bike paths most of the way. Buttenheim-Eggolsheim (4.5 km). First 2 km is on a country road. Use the gravel road edge and walk against oncoming traffic. The rest is a cycle path straight to Eggolsheim. Graefenberg-Weissenohe (1 km). Turn right from Graefenberg station, after 400 m pick up the track running parallel to the road. A longer walk: Strullendorf to Geisfeld (12 km?). Head out of Strullendorf, into the forest by the Schwannenkeller. Then head under the motorway. You will soon pick up signposted bike paths that point the way to Rossdorf and Geisfeld. It took me about 1 hr to walk to Rossdorf, then maybe 30 mins up the hill to Geisfeld. Unfortunately, I had set off too soon and arrived in Geisfeld at 2 PM. Krug was closed, Greiss had a Ruhetag, and the kellers were not open. So, your best bet may be to do this walk on a Sunday. Fortunately, Sauer at Rossdorf was open. Their lagerbier was top notch. Mike
