"what I don’t like/drink are crisp, hoppy styles" So this is another example of terms I have difficulties with (to understand). According to my dictionary, 'crisp' can have the following meanings: 1) 'knusprig' (=crunchy). In German, you cannot say a beer type to be 'knusprig'. In German this doesn't make any sense. 2) 'rösch' or 'kross', as of a Bamberger Hörnla (the pastry, not the sort of potatoes) or an Italian panini. Similar meaning as 'knusprig', same nonsense in German. 3) 'knackig', as of vegetables or fruits. Again no sense in German. 4) 'frisch', as in 'crisp weather'. But 'frisch', regarding beer, in German doesn't refer to a beer type, but means 'sufficiently cool and freshly served' as opposed to 'abgestanden' (stale? moldy? insipid?). 'Frisch', in German, can be each and every beer *type*. May be somebody can help me out? Does it refer to the amount of carbonic acid? Or is it just the same as hoppy?
