Had some Porterhouse porter & stout at their big, fancy, copper-clad place in London a few weeks ago. All nitro keg, violating my cask-only-in-England rule. Lovely, lovely beers. The Wrassler Stout in particular transported me instantly back to 20-some years ago, to the way Guinness used to be. That is, with some actual stout character, and ROASTED barley. Too strong though, at 5%. Wasn't cheap, either! Guinness really are idiots. Such a waste of water. Then again, I suppose the modern, bland stuff sells better world-wide to people who couldn't handle proper stout, so, good for them and their profits, I guess. |
