| So I've seen this twice, so it must be a thing in Berlin... The other night when eating dinner, by bill had at the bottom -- in English -- "Tip not included in the bill" -- or words to that effect. The waiter was quick to take the bill with my money, which I thought was strange as well. So last night at the bottom of the bill "Service not included" -- that stuck me as strange because I thought service was always included in Germany -- or is that a state by state thing. The smoking laws are more "liberal" here -- many, many smoking pubs. But the interesting thing is I got a glimpse of the bill of the guy at the next table -- he was German it I didn't see anything similar -- in German or English -- on his bill. So it looks like this may be a fairly widespread scan to get more money out of American tourists. It is kind of disappointing as the place last night (Salt N Bone) had good food and a decent beer list. |
