Dogs banned from Franconian pubs

Neatly summarises the problem of dogs in pubs.  It's not just a question hygene - some people are afraid of dogs, some people just don't like dogs, some people love dogs.  Some people like great big fiercesome looking dogs, some people like little adorable dogs.  One person's handsome bull terrier can seem to another person to be a terrifying pit bull terrier.

So, how do we reach a compromise?

Like Andy, I have a pub dog story.  Once upon a time, we managed a pub on the outskirts of Bristol for a couple of weeks.  A sort of biggish, two room (plus skittle alley) estate type pub.  The lounge was heavily carpeted and food was served - no dogs.  The public bar had a wooden floor, no food and, especially on Sunday mornings, the floor was literally wall to wall lurchers and greyhounds.  It was a good compromise.
