"Second visit to Mahrs: J., Frank and self were the 'advance party' so we went to the 'schwemme hatch' to be told that we had to sit inside the first room or sit at a table outside and be served - no beer was forthcoming from the hatch." This is something that occasionally irritates me about Bamberg. Why is that some of the breweries don't allow you to order in the schwemme at certain times? From my experience Schlenkerla, Fassla, and Keesman you can always get a beer at the Schwemme (at least I've never been turned away). Yet I've never been able to order on at Spezial and can drink in the Schwemme sometimes at Greifenklau, Klosterbrau, and Mahrs. Although it seems more common in Mahrs than the other two. Last trip I was walking by Klosterbrau and wanted to have a quick seidla of braunbier to see how it was this year. But was told at the hatch that I had to sit at a table. So I sat a table and had one beer and paid (I thought the Braunbier was pretty good btw). So what did having me sit at the table instead of just serving me at the hatch accomplish? I think at Klosterbrau it may be a weather thing. When it's nice they want you to sit at a table. I've been served in the Schwemme only when it was raining. |
