| Count me among those who are not particularly keen on Mahr's U. Have tried it a few times from the source, only to find a very unclean pervasive yeastiness (mildew, bread dough, etc.) which leaves an unpleasant residue on the tongue. Spezial U, on the other hand, is just a lovely pils, for it showcases pretty much everything I love about Franconian brewing, from the luxurious display of Tettnanger and skillfully extracted pils malt right down to the pronounced yeast bite and mineral-laden body. This is Victory Prima Pils' more attractive twin sibling. If anyone wants to taste a truly dirty pils, Prima is a benchmark example. |
