The European Beer Star Award says in his category describings for the award 2013 http://www.european-beer-star.de/ebs13_de/downloads/D06_2013_Kategoriebeschreibung.pdf for the Kategories Nr. 44) German Style Kellerbier Hell Nr. 45) German Style Kellerbier Dunkel Nr. 46) German Style Kellerpils that these styles have a "Leichte bis deutliche Kellertrübung" slight to significant clouding I share Your opinion that Kellerbier isn't a real/historic beer style. So it is okay that Ratebeer lists this beers into the big group Zwickel/Keller/Landbier. But the German brewers like to have more categories to win more awards. So the European Beer Star offers more categories for German/European beers than the american awards. The Kellerpils is nothing more than a non filtered, "incompleted" pils. So they have doubled the categories and medals. It's a policy of some brewers to offer one beer in two versions (non filtered and filtered), p.e. Pilsner Urquell and the Brauhaus Binkert (filtered: MainSeidla Original, non filtered: MainSeidla Kellerpils). So they have more different beers without more work. They can brew two beers with one batch. |
