Seem to remember this complaint before. Now I understood German beers so much better, perhaps you would be so good as to explain the problem again. (Hope Mr. Schellenberg - whoever he is - is not reading this Might have grounds to sue for libel?) I have long come to the conclusion that drinking foreign beers at festivals is a waste of time and money, far better to go to the point of origin and, if you can't, tough, it is possible to live without them. Yum, yum, I now have 12 bottles of Hirschbrau helles and dunkles at home, thanks to my friend Erich and his wohnmobil! The dark ale (Great Expectations) is really maturing well and the new batch of Diabolo (imitation Duivel) is very promising. As things are, don't really need to bother with Guinness anymore (can't bring myself to try it after 4 weeks of zoigl). Incidentally, more guests at Chez Charly in Eschawo brought beer, this time Schumacher's Dusseldorf altbier. I drank a bottle with Charly - reactions? It was ok, fairly bitter, but without any real character. Charly wasn't too impressed at all. I suppose a bit like a lighter version of Newcastle Brown or am I way off the mark, as it is a long time since I had that beer? I certainly wouldn't bother travelling to Dusseldorf just to drink it. |
