I could not agree more with your postings, Andy. I've never been a member of CAMRA, although concur completely with its mission to preserve a little bit of the English ale tradition. Now with a few visits behind me, I believe that Franken beer was once all real - otherwise, why do pubs serve thro' imitation kegs? The message is clear: they are trying to mislead customers that they are selling a natural product. I repeat: if Schlenkerla, Mahrs and others can sell out of the barrel, why can't the rest, especially the brauerei outlets. Far be it from me to tell my German friends what to do, but there definitely seems to be a need for a Deutsche CAMRA! I think that we're due for a trip to your area sometime. I've great memories of days and nights in the Borders, and I'm due to a due a bit of family tree digging in lovely Bilston. |
