"Kloster"brauerei Weissenohe Beer In the USA

While the brewery WAS originally a Klosterbrauerei from the 11th century(?), this ended with Napoleon and the secularization in 1803(?). Since then, it's been a private operation, although still located at the (former?) Kloster. Point: I think it's quasi-misleading to call it a "Klosterbrauerei", in the same sense that so many secularly-brewed beers are called "Abbey" beers in Belgium. IIRC, the brewery itself is of the modern sort. I used to not think much of these beers, having found them to be a bit thin and husky, as if there was something wrong with the mashing process, which is coincidentally the same criticism I've had of the other "stealth-Klosterbrauerei" north of Bamberg, Vierzehnheiligen. But the Weißenohe Annafestbier this year was indeed quite nice, whereas the previous couple years' versions were lame, IMO. So I guess I should check out their bottled stuff again. The place itself is beautiful though, as Todd pointed out.
