| Brewed for drinking in Mai, hell, trocken...ergo Maibock. But over 16°OG, so yes, a doppelbock as well. (Or over 18°--I forget what the minimum is for a Doppelbock...paging Jos...) Anyway, I suppose they wanted a big beer to commemorate the new brewery. The slightly smokey, almost stout-like Schwarzbier was the smokey one with the funny fränkischen Name, and indeed my favorite of the two. On our visit anyway, on my previous visit, it was the other way around, and I drank a liter of the Maibock...whoops. I'll post photos and other info about FRANCONIA'S NEWEST BREWERY (!!!) someday. (It's just nice to have news headlines of small breweries opening or expanding instead of closing!) I have mixed feelings about the new place. On the one hand, it does change the environment's character somewhat. OTOtherH, it's cool to have a good brewpub up there. And if it attracts more spill-over business to the other two Keller(s)... |
