Nonsmoking in Bamberg

Ireland used to be my favorite place for a pub crawl before discovering Bamberg/Franconia. And I believe they were the first or one of the firsts countries to enforce a smoking ban in pubs nationwide. I remember on my last trip there almost 3 years ago, hearing a lot of complaints from pub owners and bartenders about the downturn in business. However there are a lot more pubs per village or city in Ireland than in Franconia. There are small towns in Ireland, like Westport, that have more pubs than the entire city of Bamberg. So I'd be surprised if we see the same affect in Bamberg. At least I hope not. But, despite the fact that I'm happy that I won't have to be shrouded in smoke on my next visit there is the concern that this could be one more nail in the coffin of some small family breweries in the region.
