We have had a discussion about the Zoigl beer and the "geschützte geographische Angabe" (registered right, that it is only allowed to produce a product in a special area of Europe).

Now the "Bamberger Hörnla", a delicios varietyof potatoe, has get this right. But only for the seed. So if  an Austrian farmer or a German Farmer in other regions of Germany wants to grow "Bamberger Hörnla", it is allowed, but he had to buy the seeds from Franconia. He can grow and sells potatoes, but no seed potatoes.

Background: These potatotoes have high prices and are used in many star restaurants. They are tight, good for potatoe salad p.e.

They look similar with the cheaper french potatoe "Rat". So sometimes You but "Bamberger Hörnla" and you get "Rat".
