De Struise Brouwers

That's easy: Belgian newspaper articles. In 2005 (or so), when Ratebeer named de Struise the best brewers in the world, it was seen as quite a joke in Belgium as they weren't brewers at all. In fact, as was reported in the local newspapers, the firm was started by two brothers-in-law who came up with the idea of having a special beer brewed for customers of their vacation cottages (at least that was the story the two told the newspapers). Since they didn't know anything about brewing themselves, via friends, they brought in a professional wine salesman (Carlo) to help them. Their beers were first brewed by Caulier and now by Decca Services. In the Belgian beer world, they are described as a "beer firm" (bierfirma), not contractors. A beer firm sells beer under it's own name, but does not brew it. de Proef in Lochristi is a major supplier of these beers. It is perhaps not surprising that (according to Belgian newspapers) 90 percent of their beer is exported to the US and Denmark.
