| With respect that story is totally apocryphal. As Jumbo has pointed out, this type of meal is found all over the middle East and you don't have to go far back in history to find cooking meat on a spit common all over Europe - and maybe the world for all I know. it's certainly likely that meat would have been eaten on the plate, as you suggest, but it's stretching credibility to breaking point to suggest that no one in the millions of middle eastern street markets would not have thought of serving it in a chunk of bread! What else is claimed as a Berlin invention? Zoigl, the sandwich, chop suey......? |
