I'm sampling a lot of different Obergãrig beers at the moment (full report maybe later), including the one that won the 2016 Beer of yearat GBBF, Bingham's Vanilla Stout, and I think that it's horrible! I just can't understand why a beer that is so obviously specialised (it won the speciality class) should be classified over all the excellent bitters, milds, stouts, etc currently brewed in the UK. It's like drinking thin liquid custard with a dash of cocoa and very little beery taste. I also sampled Purple Moose Chocolate Moose, which was also pretty similar. Hope franken brewers don't get tempted to try such concoctions, which I know are pretty popular in the USA. |
