Pouring! |

I've noticed in quite a few reports that our US-colleagues use the word 'pouring' to refer to serving beer. Also, on a news programme last night (showing a trip along a now desolate looking Route 66), I noted a neon sign saying 'Brew Pub - Now Pouring' (think it was in either Arizona or New Mexico). We don't use the word in a beer connection in English-English, so I wondered how it came into use and what it means exactly. Does it refer to serving from a bottle (which would sense) or does it have a wider use? Thanks in anticipation of further enlightenment on the way our language has developed! |
