Yes, my request was a bit tongue-in-cheek. But only just a small bit! Interesting to learn about the % ABV tolerances. My standard "house lager" at home is a bottle of PU (bottle says 4.4% ABV) mixed 80/20 with Störtebeker alcohol-free Freibier to yield ~3.6% ABV. This is what I like to drink, true "session beer", a lager version of low-gravity British ale. Beggars can't be choosers. It's also why I brew 9° half-IPA at home: low alcohol, lots of hops. Quaffability. I don't like to get drunk, but I like to drink a lot of flavourful beer. At the new Bierothek shop in Erlangen, I've found a couple of German "Session IPAs" which are *drinkable*, even well made, but 2,50€ / 33 cl bottle...ridiculously over-priced. I really like the keg Krusovice dark "3.8%" lager at the Czech restaurant here, don't find it over-attenuated. That place (http://www.roemming.de/) also offers a rotating pale lager every month, one month we're lucky to get Krusovice 10°, another PU. But it is a restaurant, not a pub, and we don't eat there, so we can't really enjoy it very much. And the bottled Breznak 3.8% "Schwarzbier" I can buy at REWE for 70 cents a bottle is good too. I have always imagined that the draught 10° Czech lagers are good, it's something that Czechs brew well, the only country with really good low-gravity lager...Schankbier. Even if they're not so great, I must experience that for myself. |
