I have not tasted the new Rossdorfer Sommerbier with 3% alc. vol. But I believe there is a good chance for such beers (for car drivers and so on). These beers shouldn't branded as "Light" or "Leicht". And they should not taste as beer thinned with water. As a pub owner I think hat we (in Germany) have a deficit of light beers (until 4% vol alc) with a full aroma. We offer since years the "Mahrs Leichte", an bottom-fermented beer with 2,8% vol. alc. The taste is okay. And wé offer a "Saures Radler", mixed with a Mönchsambacher Lager and mineral water (in contrast to the normal Radler, mixed with lemonade), which could be an alternative to a light beer. In the spring the brewery Grasser in Huppendorf have brewed a "Leichtes Weizen" (without announcement). I have tasted it but haven't sell it. It tastes like a Weizen thinned with water. But the owner have told me that the small test production of 12 hl was a success, insofar they could sell all bottles. But I think, the brewmaster should try another receipt, p.e. a small amount of dark malt. |
