Buried in a thread below was a brief discussion between Barry & me of the idea of buying an abandoned brewery on the cheap. While Vestenberg is lovely and the beer formerly brewed there very good, the location is a bit too much of a stretch for Mrs & me to consider at this point in time: an hour's drive from here. And an hour's drive from her workplace, so living down there isn't really an option. (Too far in the wrong direction from Hallerndorf, for one thing!) This Pension has appeared in the paper for sale for 195k€ a couple of times now: < www.pensionsonne.de > (beware, horrid website music) It's also not located well for our current life/work situation, but is the kind of thing I think about: replacing the kitchen with a Brauhaus, renovating the rooms to have their own kitchens, or renovating the entire place into a private home for us with Brauhaus. At the other end of the spectrum, a Landgasthof with 8 bedrooms, hall with stage, Biergarten, etc., etc., is available for 785k€. It's in a village near Eggolsheim, but I don't recognise it from the photos. Recken beer though. Last week's paper also had an ad for a "well-running" Landgasthof in the Steigerwald with rooms & Biergarten for sale by owner for 355k€. They have to sell because of "age and health reasons, unfortunately". No internet details though. Last but not least, a former streetcorner chemist's/pharmacy/Apotheke within a few hundred metres of the Burg Nürnberg is for sale for 159k€, located on the SW corner of Bucher / Arndtstraße: < http://tinyurl.com/cngdm23 > It was for sale a year or so ago (?), and is now for sale again. Based on the information at the realty website < http://www.s-immobilien.de/S2-0553-U4158 > ("permission planning to remodel to the current use as an eatery was not applied for") and one streetview photo of the signage, it appears that it was bought and turned into a "German-Turkish culture club" without proper approvals from the city. Without even having APPLIED FOR the approvals. This could be a fabulous location for a brewpub, especially located next door to a good Thai place. Think we'll head down for a look around.
