| Todd - I made the same enquiry back in August and received several helpful suggestions. Go back in the archive to around August this year to read. As it happened, I didn't really make use of these, as we met Don, Cherie and friends and tended to eat with them in 'normal' pubs. Although we didn't have too much trouble finding something to eat, of course, there isn't the variety that's open to omnivores and we were a bit lucky because it was the mushroom season, but you may not be so lucky. The best options are the larger, mainstream places, like Drei Kronen in Memmelsdorf and Hartmann in Wurgau. In Bamberg, Spezial has a fairly decent veggy menu and, of coure, Asbeit is pretty good, but generally the choice is limited, particularly in the lovely rural pubs. E.g. our local in Dorfleins had little to offer. In the end, it depends on the attitdue of you and your friend(s). You may all find the experience embarrassing, and the veg parties may find it annoying, as the carnivors wade through endless pages of tempting meat dishes, while the waiter attempts to placate starving vegetarians with offers of salads or plates of vegetables. To be honest, if you want to accompany your beer drinking with good food in the Franken pubs, I don't think that this is really a good possibility for a vegetarian, which is why we stay in fewo's and cook our own food. IMHO, it is best to enjoy the beer and sort out the food separately. |
