Smithwick's Pale Ale

Amazing, now even Smithwick's (subsidiary of Guinness, subsidiary of Diageo) are producing a pale ale! It's been advertised in the Irish national press and the blurb on the website reads: 'The story continues…. To the excitement of beer enthusiasts, Smithwick’s launches Smithwick’s Pale Ale, a great tasting craft brewed beer and the first extension of the range since 1983. Craft brewed in individual batches using the finest quality ingredients: aromatic Amarillo hops, 100% pale ale malt and the prized Smithwick’s yeast, Smithwick’s Pale Ale is a deliciously fuller tasting beer with a long finish, a rich golden colour and a creamy head. Benefitting from over 300 years’ brewing experience and the much loved heritage of the Smithwick’s brand, Smithwick’s Pale Ale is testament to Smithwick’s passion for creating great tasting beer.' Not sure where all the excited beer enthusiasts are and where the other 'great tasting beers' are - Smithwick's (AKA Kilkenny Red, etc.) is the blandest of bland concoctions. However, this is certainly not without a degree of interest. Noticeable that it is not called 'IPA', presumably because of the imperial connections with the old enemy. Howewer, in the search for enlightment, I'd be interested to try this brew fairly quickly because Guinness' various new ale launches have often had a fairly short life, as the Irish market seems fixated by ersatz lagers and fizzy porters, although there has been a lot of talk about craft beers (aren't all beers 'crafted'?), with a number of miscro brewery launches, recently. Presumably, this is why the PA ois described as 'Craft brewed in individual batches' - isn't all ale brewed in individual batches - can't imagine a continuous process? Probably little chance of the new brew making it down to sweet Cooraclare, though I guess it might get to Kilrush.
